Management Committee incorporating Finance Committee (ManCom)
ManCom meets on a monthly basis. This is the main committee of the co-op. It has overall responsibility for the running of the co-op and many of the decisions made at sub-committee level have to be approved by ManCom. Any co-op member can be voted onto the Management Committe, the only proviso is that they must have been a member for at least six months. ManCom is elected annually at the Annual General Meeting. At the first ManCom meeting after the AGM, the Officers are elected. The Officers are made up of Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Company Secretary.

Development Committee
(DevCom)
DevCom is responsible for developing and acquiring new properties for the co-op and is currently very active in the Housing Plus side of Phoenix, looking at ways to provide longer-term accomodation for our members. Any member who has an interest in housing and/or development can join this committee. DevCom meets one a month and a representative reports to ManCom.
Welfare Committee (WelCom)
WelCom's main role is to interview prospective waiting list applicants, to assist in the organisation of all General and Annual General Meetings and to arrange New Member evenings. The committee is also responsible for handback interviews, members who have been served with a Notice to Quit due to their property being handed back and is also the first point of call for members who have in-house disputes.
Without Volunteers Phoenix Housing Co-operative would not exist!
It is an essential of any co-operative that the members get involved as much as their time allows. At Phoenix it's no different. We do expect everyone as much as possible to get involved in the running of the co-op. That could be anything from filling envelopes for an hour each month, to being the chairperson of whole organisation!
None of this will take up any more of your time than is necessary and usually it's no more than a couple of hours a month. You get to meet other members of the co-op and it can help if you eventually want to transfer to your very own self-contained flat.
Below is a list of suggested co-operative volunteer activities that you could help with. You will see they are wide and varied. There are many more that aren't here... contact the office for more details and talk to Colin who will be able to help you more on what there is to do. Remember its your co-op... pick up the phone now and have a see what you can do!
